2015 Shy Susan Shiraz

Amphora fermented peppery Shiraz from one of the coolest vintages in Tasmania

The 2015 season was very cool and quite long. Grapes ripened slowly, building up flavour with modest sugar levels. In fact the season was the coolest vintage on record. A moderate crop on 16 year old vines from the Waterton Hall vineyard in the unique Rowella area on the western side of the Tamar Valley produced pristine grapes with high natural acidity, intense fruit spice characters, ripe tannins and dense colour. Hand picked fruit was gently de-stemmed into a 600 LT terracotta Amphora and underwent natural fermentation and malolactic on skins. Once all fermentation activity had subsided the Amphora was sealed up until the 6th November, a total of 120 days on skins. The wine was basket pressed off to a 500 LT old Puncheon and allowed to integrate and mature for a further 12 months. The wine was then racked to tank for settling. Bottling took place on the 29th November 2016 without fining or filtration.

95 Points The WineFront (CM)

“White pepper, wild herbs, sweet red berries, plenty of acidity. Hints of liquorice in among the raspberry, cherry and all that spice. A beguiling wine. Pure Tassie Shiraz in the best sense of the            words. High on spice”
